Folkton & Flixton Cricket Club -
2009 AGM
Friday 20th November 2009

The opening address by Melvyn Brown our chairman welcomed everyone to the AGM and introduced Richard Malthouse who joins us as a 1st team player for the 2010 season.

He went on to thank the officials, committee, fund raisers, helpers and cricket captains for donating their time and energy throughout the year, without which our club would not exist.

Melvyn continued:
" Only one thing sticks out in 2009 and that is the untimely death of Gary Jone. No matter how you feel or what problems you may be experiencing, you only have to think of Gary for everything to fall into perspective. It was the hardest job I have ever done when I stood up in church and spoke about Gary. He will be sadly missed and 2009 in my mind will always be the Gary Jones Season".

The secretary's report by Pat Baker also paid tribute to Gary with the words " It was with great sadness that we mourned the premature death of Gary Jones. I know our chairman will have included Gary in his opening address and I can only endorse all of Melvyn's remarks. I would just like to add that the address given by Melvyn at Gary's funeral was the most moving, amusing and heartfelt tribute I and many more have been privileged to hear. Gary would have been proud".

Pat then thanked the organisers of the whist drive and race evening being two very successful fund raising events.

Club statistics were not particularly good but the 1st XI remained in the 1st Division of the York & District Senior Cricket League. The 2nd XI remain in the Premier Division of the Scarborough Beckett League but the 3rd XI were relegated to Division B of the Derwent Valley League. The junior team remain in Division C of the Derwent Valley Junior League just enjoying their games of cricket which is as it should be.
We progressed to the ¼ finals of the Village Cup having a home tie against Streethouse. However the club was mourning the loss of Gary Jones and unfortunately were totally outplayed.
Our evening league A team were runners up in Division A of the Andy Hire League and were also runners up in the Harburn Cup. The B team finished 4th in Division D.
The 1st XI took part for the first time in the Premier Cup of the York League as we finished in the top 4 of Division 1 in 2008. We were drawn away against our arch rivals Bridlington in the first round, but once again they beat us.

Pat concluded with the ‘thank you’ part of her report. No matter how you dress it up you can never express sufficient appreciation to the people who work their socks off for this club. In no particular order and hoping I don’t miss anyone here goes:
Our groundsman James - together with everyone who has helped to make our wicket the best in the area.
Our cricket captains who despite match results being below par have devoted themselves to fielding a team every match against many adversities throughout the season.
Our tea ladies, and gentlemen, who really do us proud. We are still the talk of the York League.
Our barman Dave who rarely misses a match, together with all who give a hand when possible.
Everyone who has worked in and around the pavilion keeping it clean and tidy with a special mention to Robert for the paving laid recently on the patio area.
Our Vice Presidents and sponsors for their unfailing donations which are the life blood of our club.
Our committee with special mention to Melvyn who has had a difficult year on a business level but still devotes himself to the running and upkeep of this club. Everyone on the committee deserves not just my thanks, but the thanks of all members for the work they do on a regular basis without being asked or rewarded. I don’t know where we would be without their unfailing commitment.
And Terry, a big thank you. Your memory on cricket procedures, rules, regulations, cup matches, fixtures and countless other areas is phenomenal; without you, my better cricket half, I could not do this job.
In conclusion I wish everyone a healthy and happy time and hope that the 2010 season brings a bit more success on the field.
Treasurer's Report
This was presented to the meeting and agreed.
Junior League Secretary
It was explained that the emphasis is on junior cricket by all cricketing boards which entails much more involvement both on a clerical and parental level. The club secretary Pat Baker has no personal involvement with our junior members and therefore has no association with the parents and thus requests that this new position be created.
Melvyn agreed to follow up on the matter and liaise with John Ward, Robert Lacey and David Hutchinson who will be actively involved with a junior team in 2010.

Joan Baker said she would donate £100 for which she was duly thanked.
